Air Canada Offers TSA Pre✔TM Program Access at US Airports
Air Canada

Air Canada customers travelling from the US can now obtain electronic boarding passes at US airports, not only making check-in and boarding simpler, but also giving them easier access to the TSA Pre✔TM program.

Air Canada is the only foreign airline qualified for pre-check, which uses features such as dedicated lanes and less intrusive search measures to make it easier for pre-approved travellers to pass through security.

"Air Canada is pleased to now offer customers the convenience of mobile check-in and e-boarding passes at US airports we serve. This will also make it easier for eligible customers to access the TSA Pre✔TM program, a welcome smart security initiative that saves time and avoids cumbersome requirements such as removing shoes and belts," said Benjamin Smith, president, Passenger Airlines at Air Canada. "For frequent business travellers TSA Pre✔TM is attractive because many already have Nexus or other recognized security documents to qualify.

Electronic boarding passes are now or soon-to-be available for all 52 US airports that Air Canada serves, allowing customers to complete their web check-in and obtain their boarding pass via e-mail or text message.

Delta Operational Performance Commitment
APP & Delta Air Lines

When choosing an airline for a business trip, most travellers look at price and schedule convenience as the first two criteria. Delta Air Lines is hoping you'll consider another – operational performance. Delta has spent much of the past three years substantially improving their operations – in order to complete more flights, on time, with fewer customer complaints.

Delta currently leads the industry in all 3 of those categories, in some cases by a wide margin. For example, in 2014, Delta had 95 days in which they did not cancel a single flight. United and American had only 10 days combined. When flying for business, getting to your meeting on time is critical, so the reliability of the airline should be an increasingly important factor.

Delta is now so confident in the quality of their operations, they are willing to back it up with money. For companies that have a Corporate Sales Agreement with Delta (a discount agreement for larger companies who spend a certain amount on Delta each year), the airline is providing a guarantee that their on-time arrivals and completion factor will be better than United and American. If Delta doesn't achieve that, they will make payments to the company as compensation.

This sounds great – and it is – but Delta doesn't actually expect to make any payments. Their intent is to keep running a reliable operation, outperforming their competitors, and hope that this encourages more travellers to choose Delta.
LaGuardia Airport Redevelopment Program
LaGuardia Airport

LaGuardia Airport is the smallest of New York City's three main airports. The airport is subject to a government-imposed perimeter restriction which limits flight to 1,500 miles (except for Saturdays and Denver). It also lacks customs facilities so it is only used for domestic flights or those from airport with US preclearance (like Toronto). The airport has often been in the news for its outdated facilities and VP Biden comparing it to a third world airport. Recently, a massive plan was announced to rebuild the entire airport, with construction to begin in summer 2016.
WhatsApp
APP & GADGET OF THE MONTH

Does your phone service provider charge for text messages when you're travelling outside the United States? You can avoid these fees by installing WhatsApp Messenger, which is a mobile messaging app that allows you to text without paying for SMS. The app uses the same internet data plan that you use for email and web browsing (so roaming charges may still apply), however, if you are in a Wi-Fi zone, texting is completely free of charge.

Have friends, family members, or anyone else you want to stay in touch with, download the app and you can text with them - and send photos and audio notes back and forth - from wherever you are, gratis. The app is available for Android, BlackBerry, iPhone, Nokia, Windows Phone. Cost varies, depending on make of phone, from free to $1.99.
